Winner of the Ted Hood Memorial Bursary is announced
IFSTI have announced Charlene Connolly as the winner of the 2014 Ted Hood Memorial Bursary. This award is to commemorate the outstanding contribution of David Edward (Ted) Hood (1936-2005) to the world community of Food Science and Technology.
Charlene, who holds an honours degree in “Forensic and Environmental Analysis” from DIT, graduated in 2010 and subsequently joined Monaghan Mushrooms as a Research Analyst under the Food Science and Technology Division. She commenced a four year structured PhD (funded by the Irish Research Council under the “Employment Based Postgraduate Programme”) in December 2012 in the area of the flavour chemistry of selected edible Mushrooms and their sensory perception. Her research is a collaboration between Monaghan Mushrooms and DIT.
The Ted Hood Bursary will provide funding for a Charlene to attend the 17th IUFoST World Food Congress in Montreal, Canada 17-21st August 2014 and will afford Charlene the opportunity to disseminate some of the knowledge and outputs from her research.
